One of my favorite short novels! I found it fascinating how the generation before the Russian Revolution started changing their ideology about how a society should be run. Monarchies were on the outs but, as Edmund Burke knew, seismic changes in society can be detrimental. This novel, focusing on the differences in how two different generations view society, captures that spirit before everything would never be the same within another generation.

Ivan Turgenev's Fathers and Sons is a profound exploration of the ideological chasm between generations that defined 19th-century Russian society. Set against the backdrop of the Russian countryside, this novel delves into the complex relationships between parents and their children, capturing the inevitable clash of old and new beliefs. At the heart of the story is the charismatic and nihilistic Bazarov, a character whose revolutionary ideas challenge the traditional values of his elders, sparking intense debates and personal dilemmas.
